![]() OD on off switch seems to work properly as the cluster lights up accordingly. I guess where Im going is I don't know if the PCM is commanding a 4th gear shift and its not happening, or if its not even trying because it thinks a 4th gear shift is not appropriate. Anyone have a transfer function curve for the tranny temp sensor where I could check the resistance at the pins on the PCM and see if its getting the right temperature? Tonight ambient temp was 50 degrees so it shouldn't have even had to warm up. If I had a stuck OD solenoid and it tried to shift but didnt, and for whatever reason you don't feel anything other than being stuck in third gear, wouldn't it still be expected to store some kind of code in the PCM that it wasn't successful in going into OD on many occasions?Īccording to the manual, tranny fluid temp must be between 50 and 150 degrees F. If I had a stuck OD solenoid, wouldn't you feel it trying to shift but not be successful? Would tranny related DTCs show up in a scan of the PCM? Since it doesn't have a link to the DLC I am assuming it would, but don't know for sure. My VAG COM doesn't support any datastream info usuable for this problem(just engine speed, vehicle speed, MAP, coolant and air temps). According to VAG COM, I had no stored or pending DTCs. So I came home and used my VAG-COM which is a moderately powerful scanner for Volkswagens. Don't know if a pin wasnt making contact or what, but we messed with it about a half hour and got nowhere. Unfortunately for some reason it wouldn't initialize on the truck. The old one had a little debris on it, but nothing major.Ī freind of mine has a scanner that should have allowed us to pull codes and check the datastream. I also replaced the speed sensor on the output of the trans. No slipping.ĭid the mentioned tranny fluid and filter. I can get on the throttle and it will accelerate just fine up to about 65 when I let out of it. ![]() Once there for a handful of seconds Im guessing the 3rd gear lockup engages since the RPMs will drop another 100 rpm as long as I don't increase load. After that it is like having a 3 speed trans. ![]() During normal and hard acceleration, it shifts properly and firm through 1st, 2nd, and into 3rd. I have seen far worse on well functioning trannies.īasically the tranny engages fine and firm from park or neutral into any gear selection. Judging by the fluid, the fluid needed changed, however there was not much on the magnet. Now that the engine is running like a top, tranny full of fresh ATF+3, new filter, etc truck still has no overdrive. Previous to doing the engine swap I drove it about 5 miles and noticed it had no OD. Just bought it and finished an engine swap due to a cracked block and head.
